'A house is a man's
statement of his life'... (Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead) we have
been able to play our legitimate role in making that dream statement,
for some people! For its BOLD concept and dedicated designing
and detailing, one of the earliest houses was published in DESIGN
(Editor Patwant Singh) the only 'Indian Architectural Magazine'
at that time.
Some more houses,
relevant even today, each with some unique idea followed optimum
use of space, Rhythm in Architecture, integration of graphics-public
art in obvious & natural way. Our own small house has often
been 'the laboratory of ideas.'
Many of our Stalls, Pavilions, and a Republic Day Float, have
won us 'Silver and Gold Medals' !
The graphic arts and fusion of Art-n-Architecture has been a
constant 'source of inspiration' in fact to quote Architect
A P Kanvinde, 'the germ of an idea.' is the most important vital
force of a project. All along one has been inspired from time
to time by Master Architects (WRIGHT, Mies & Corbusier)
and some nearer home, like the iconic Ar Raj Rewal, presently
Chairman DUAC, Ar Satish Grover and Ar Joseph Stein*.
In fact the undersigned was privileged to be constantly in touch
with him during his last five years and imbibed some of his
philosophies for e.g. "towards finishing, the effect of last
5% is really more then 50%*.
Ar A R Prabhawalkar our founding Principal at CCA Chandigarh
and Ar Aditya Prakash the next Principal with whom I shared
a fairly 'long innings' and whose quote," Function, Function,
Function! Isn't Aesthetics a Function"? is close to
my heart ! Ar M S Rana the doyen, who was the first Indian
to join Ar WRIGHT and coming back to India had the unique distinction
of serving as the top many in many institutions of Government
of India. Incidentally he was the examiner for our graduation
‘Thesis Project’. Being a master of ‘Organic Architecture’ is
a great raconteur & continues to inspire even today !
Amongst
the younger colleagues, Ar Sanjay Prakash, a Modernite, stood
first in India in his school leaving CBSE examination with a
record breaking aggregate... and has never looked back. He continues
to do innovative and inspiring work, right from Mirambika and
a lot more at Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Delhi to Mati Ghar at IGNCA
and the Inida Pavilion at the Expo Shanghai 2010; his environmental
concerns and the design of his own house have made him an icon
to follow!
So we
finish here, but much less than 50% has been covered above,
so we remain... in touch.
